Frequently asked questions
We’ve chosen to partner with Yahoo Mail to provide customers with a comcast.net email the ability to upgrade their email account to Yahoo Mail for a better email experience at no extra cost. If you choose to upgrade to Yahoo Mail, your email address, messages, folders and contacts will stay the same. Yahoo Mail provides a ton of great features, including enhanced security, smart and intuitive calendar features, AI-driven tools to streamline your inbox management, and a mobile app so you can stay connected on the go. The upgrade to Yahoo Mail does not impact any paid services customers may have with Xfinity.
All active comcast.net email accounts, including those used by current and former Xfinity customers, will have the option to upgrade to Yahoo Mail. An email account is considered active if it has been signed in to within the past two years.
Once you’re eligible to upgrade your comcast.net email account to Yahoo Mail, you’ll see a prompt to accept Yahoo’s terms of service when you securely sign in to your email at connect.xfinity.com. If you have more than one comcast.net email account associated with your Xfinity account, you will need to sign in to each email account and accept the Yahoo terms, as each mailbox will be treated separately.
Below are a few tips to ensure a smooth transition:
- Download and delete any emails with attachments totaling more than 25 MB since we will not be able to move them. Otherwise, they will be moved to a separate folder in your Xfinity Email inbox, and you will be notified that you have 30 days to download them.
- Reduce or consolidate your mailbox if your folders exceed 4,100 or contacts exceed 10,000. Yahoo Mail can only move up to 4,100 folders and 10,000 contacts per mailbox. If you exceed 4,100 folders, your folders will be consolidated upon moving. You will lose any contacts over 10,000.
Yes. You will need to:
- First, accept Yahoo terms of service when prompted after signing in to connect.xfinity.com.
- Then, change the configuration on your third-party client to reflect the settings on your new Yahoo Mail account so you can continue to access your email there in the future.
Steps on how to set up your third-party app with Yahoo Mail.
Yes with a few exceptions:
- Email messages with attachments of more than 25 MB or in an unformatted format will not be moved. They will be moved to a separate folder in your Xfinity Email inbox, and you will be notified that you have 30 days to download them. Only up to 4,100 folders can be moved. Folders over 4,100 will be consolidated into a single folder.
- Folders with names over 240 characters will be moved; however, the folder names will be automatically truncated prior to moving.
- Only up to 10,000 contacts can be moved.
- Any user-created folders with names matching Yahoo system folders (like “Sent” or “Drafts”) will be renamed in Yahoo Mail.
Yes, most email attachments will be moved to Yahoo Mail along with your other emails. However, email messages with attachments totaling more than 25 MB will not be moved. You’ll be notified if you have an email at risk of being deleted and have 30 days to retrieve the email.
No, forwarding settings will not be moved to Yahoo Mail, and all forwarding will stop once your comcast.net email is upgraded to Yahoo Mail. If you want to continue email forwarding, you will need to set up forwarding through your Yahoo Mail account settings.
No. Because the Yahoo Mail experience is different than Xfinity Email, your email settings, including filters and forwarding, will not be retained. You will need to set up your preferred experience in Yahoo Mail settings.
You’ll see a message after you securely sign in to your email at connect.xfinity.com prompting you to sign the Yahoo terms of service. We’ll also email you and let you know when that message is available to you.
No, this is an upgrade we are offering customers at no cost so they can access their email on a better platform with enhanced security, more features, and a mobile app for easy access on the go.
