Detect Movement in Your Home with WiFi Motion

Smart Home

With the rise of smart home technology, WiFi networks are getting smarter and more effective than ever. One of the latest advancements, WiFi motion detection, provides additional peace of mind by sensing and notifying you of movement throughout your home.

WiFi Motion uses your Advanced Xfinity Gateway and existing WiFi-connected devices in your home to sense motion between the gateway and your selected WiFi-connected devices. When enabled, you can receive push notifications about activity in your home and enjoy added peace of mind.

What is WiFi Motion?

WiFi Motion is a new feature available for Xfinity Internet customers who lease an Advanced Xfinity Gateway. Here’s what you need to know:

  • No extra cost: If you have an XB7 model or later, you can enable this feature without any extra cost. You will need at least one stationary WiFi-connected device in your home, as WiFi motion detects motion between your Xfinity Gateway and WiFi-connected devices.
  • Pairs with your WiFi devices: WiFi Motion uses your Advanced Xfinity Gateway (XB7+) paired with up to three stationary WiFi devices to create three different coverage zones.
  • Get notified when motion happens: When the feature is enabled, you’ll receive a push notification if movement is detected in your coverage zone. For example, set up a coverage zone near your front door and you’ll know if your kids got home from school on time with notifications to your smartphone when movement is detected.

How to enable WiFi Motion

If you’d like to enable this feature, check out the Xfinity Support article to learn how to activate WiFi Motion. And to learn more, read this FAQ on WiFi Motion.
