If you wear a hearing aid, rest assured that all Xfinity Mobile phones are hearing aid-compatible.
How your phone is rated
Hearing aids operate in one of two modes: acoustic coupling or telecoil coupling. Mobile phones are rated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) according to how compatible they are with each kind of hearing aid. This is known as their hearing aid compatibility (HAC) rating.
Hearing aids can also be rated according to their compatibility with mobile phones.
- Phones receive an M-rating for their compatibility with acoustic hearing aids.
- The rating scale is M1 to M4, with M4 indicating the highest level of compatibility and the best signal.
- For compatibility with telecoil hearing aids, phones receive a T-rating, from T1 to T4, with T4 being the best.
To determine whether a phone is likely to work well with a particular hearing aid, add the rating of the hearing aid to the rating of the phone.
- A sum of four indicates the phone is usable.
- A sum of five indicates normal use.
- Sums of six or greater indicate the phone provides excellent performance for hearing aid users.
The FCC recently adopted a new HAC test (called the “2019 ANSI standard”) that doesn't use the M/T rating system described above. If you see that a phone is labeled simply “HAC,” that phone has been tested and determined to be hearing aid-compatible in compliance with the new 2019 ANSI standard, as defined by the FCC.
Notes:
- Each of our phones incorporate new technology that may not yet be tested for hearing aid compatibility.
- Those devices will include the following information at the bottom of each product page:
- This phone has been tested and rated for use with hearing aids for some of the wireless technologies that it uses. However, there may be some newer wireless technologies used in this phone that have not been tested yet for use with hearing aids. It is important to try the different features of this phone thoroughly and in different locations, using your hearing aid or cochlear implant, to determine if you hear any interfering noise. Consult your service provider or the manufacturer of this phone for information on hearing aid compatibility. If you have questions about return or exchange policies, consult your service provider or phone retailer.
