Learn how to reduce motion events and notifications in the Xfinity app by limiting motion detection to a specific area within the camera view.
Note: This feature is only available in the Xfinity app with the latest Xfinity Cameras (xCam2+) and Video Doorbell.
Understanding camera area setting
The Xfinity cameras and video doorbells capture important moments that help keep you safe and aware of the activity around your cameras. They can also capture, record, and notify you about peripheral activity that might be of little interest to you.
The Camera area setting in the Xfinity app allows you to create a customized area that filters out any motion outside the selected area without reducing your camera view. Narrowing the motion detection area of your camera reduces the number of motion notifications and recorded motion event clips.
Note: Creating a customized camera area does not impact 24/7 recording.
Create a customized camera area
- Log into the Xfinity app and tap the Home tab.
- Tap the desired camera thumbnail.
- Tap the gear icon on the upper-right of the camera screen.
- Tap Camera area.
- Select the On/Off switch to enable camera area.
- Tap, hold and slide the corners of the six-sided polygon to create the customized camera area.
