FAQs
Do I need the Xfinity app to connect to Xfinity WiFi?
Xfinity Mobile customers don’t need the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app to connect to the secure XFINITY or Xfinity Mobile hotspot, as you’ll automatically be connected with the secure profile. The Xfinity app is also not required for connecting to the open xfinitywifi signal.
Why is a screen lock required on Android devices?
In order to take advantage of Xfinity WiFi security features, a screen lock is required on the device.
PIN or password locks are the most compatible options. Swipe isn't compatible. Pattern and fingerprint (if available) locks are also supported except on the following:
- Patterns not compatible:
- Samsung G5 with Android 5.0.0
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with Android 4.4.2
- Sharp 304SH with Android 4.4.2
- ZTE N9518 running Android 5.0.2
- Fingerprint not compatible:
- Motorola moto g with Android 4.4.4
- Samsung GS5 with Android 5.0.0
Why was a secure profile added to my device?
To ensure your device connects to a genuine Xfinity WiFi hotspot, a personalized secure profile was installed on your WiFi-enabled device. This will ensure that your data is encrypted on secure Xfinity WiFi hotspots when available and works with connection management technology to prioritize secure hotspot connections.
If I uninstall the Xfinity app, will the secure profile remain?
No. The secure profile will be removed if you uninstall the Xfinity app, and you'll no longer be connected to secure Xfinity WiFi hotspots.
Will the Xfinity app automatically connect to my favorite network?
Yes. Once initially selected, your favorite network will be prioritized and connected upon login.
I know Xfinity WiFi is available in my area, but when I search by state no results are found. Why?
Because there are so many Xfinity WiFi hotspots, searches are performed using a 10-mile radius from the center of the search term. Try including a city name or ZIP code for better results. You can also use the GPS location symbol adjacent to the search feature in the WiFi hotspots.
The "Near Me" search button isn't working, and/or I see the message "Geo-location services are not available." How do I resolve this?
You can modify your device’s location permissions by adjusting your general device settings. Follow these steps:
- iOS:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Hotspots > Allow Location Access Always.
- Android:
- Go to Settings > Location > App Permissions.
- Look for Xfinity, then select Allow for location access.
Note: If you’ve enabled location services and are still experiencing this issue, your device may not currently be able to identify your location (e.g., if you are on an iPod Touch with no GPS functionality, and WiFi is disabled, the device will not be able to determine your location).
What information does the Xfinity app collect, and why?
To improve your experience with the app, we collect some anonymous information about page views, search locations and general app usage. No personal or location information is stored. Understanding what customers do on our networks helps us ensure that the network is operating properly.
Privacy of usage data is our priority. Refer to our privacy statement.
To enable this data collection, on Android devices you'll be prompted to accept the phone permission, and on iOS devices you’ll be prompted to allow Share Usage Information. The app does not make or manage any phone calls.
If you prefer that we don’t collect this information from you, it's possible to disable the feature within the Settings menu.
Will the Xfinity app turn on WiFi automatically?
No, the app does not automatically turn on WiFi.
What happens to the list of WiFi networks I have previously saved?
The Xfinity app doesn't delete any of your existing WiFi networks. It will seamlessly connect your device to Xfinity WiFi and any of your saved networks.
