To ensure that you're getting the most out of your Xfinity Gigabit Internet service, you'll need to make sure that your equipment is up-to-date and properly configured.
Check out the steps that you can take to make sure that your Gigabit Internet service is performing at its best.
Gigabit Internet speeds overview
Xfinity Gigabit Internet service has advanced, next generation technology, with WiFi download speeds of up to 1000 Mbps (up to 1200 Mbps in some areas) and upload speeds of up to 35 Mbps. Speeds are delivered over our Hybrid Fiber-Coax (HFC) network, which uses the communication lines that already exist in most homes.
To help understand the download speeds that you can expect over WiFi with Gigabit Internet service, Xfinity tested leading equipment under a variety of conditions. See some examples of our maximum WiFi download speeds.
Keep in mind that device manufacturers often list a device's theoretical speed, which may be difficult to achieve. Speed can be affected by a number of additional factors, including your connection type, the number of devices in use, the age of your device, site traffic, content provider server capacity and internal network factors.
Getting the most from Gigabit
To make sure that you're getting the most out of your Xfinity Gigabit Internet service, please take the following steps:
- Make sure that your equipment is up-to-date. Newer computers with a 2.5 and 5 gigahertz dual core CPU, 8 gigabytes of RAM and a solid-state hard drive are equipped to deliver Gigabit Internet speeds. Operating requirements for your PC are Windows 8 or higher, and 10.8 or higher for your Apple devices.
- Always update your browser. Make sure that you're using the most up-to-date version of Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
- Ethernet cables make a difference. Select a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable for a wired connection. As with any connection, speeds will vary due to a number of factors, including network traffic. Actual download speeds might be limited to 940 Mbps due to Ethernet technical limitations. To read more about expected speeds, visit xfinity.com/minrequirements.
- Find the ideal place to put your Wireless Gateway. We suggest placing your Wireless Gateway in a central location of your home. The closer you are positioned to your Gateway, the better your WiFi quality will be. Position the Gateway so that it's off the floor and upright. We recommend keeping it away from thick surfaces (like, concrete floors and walls) and crowded areas, such as inside or behind large furniture.
