Notices created by rules
A rule helps you get the most out of your Xfinity Home system. Some of the most popular rules tell you when a system event occurs, like:
- When the front door opens between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
- When a water sensor is triggered by the presence of water.
- When the back door isn't opened between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
Notices created by rules are sent to everyone in your Automation Contacts. When you add a rule, you choose which type of notice is sent: email, text message, push notification, or a message on your TV sent through your Xfinity X1 TV Box.
Rules can only be changed in the Xfinity Home app. Text messages sent because of a rule cannot be stopped by replying STOP or something similar. They must be turned off in the Xfinity Home app. For more information on how to change a rule, go to the Add or Change Rules in the Xfinity Home app article.
Alarm messages
Alarm messages tell you when an alarm is triggered, telling you about the event and helping you stop false alarms. Unlike other rules, the alarm rule can't be changed, turned off, or deleted. Examples of alarm events include:- When a door or window sensor set as a perimeter zone is triggered while the system is armed away.
- When a smoke detector is triggered by the presence of smoke or heat.
- When an emergency alarm is triggered on the touchscreen.
Separate messages are sent when an alarm is triggered and when it is canceled. Alarm messages are sent through email and text message to everyone in your Automation Contacts.
What about my emergency contacts? These contacts aren't related to system messages. These are the people who the Central Monitoring Station will call when an alarm occurs to verify the alarm is valid and is not a false alarm. For more information on these contacts, see Add or change emergency contacts in the Xfinity Home app.
System alerts
Most system alerts tell you about a system problem, like a lost connection or a device battery getting low. Sometimes, you might get an alert that reminds you of a new feature, like 24/7 video recording. System alerts show up:
- In the Xfinity Home app
- On your touchscreen
You should try to resolve a system alert as soon as possible.
