We take our responsibility to combat spam seriously and we constantly work to reduce the amount of unwanted and malicious emails that make their way to our customers' inboxes. We employ a number of technologies to reduce spam including:
Protecting email
Reputation services: We use various reputation services, including products from Spamhaus and Return Path, to help determine the likelihood that a source of email is identified as sending spam. These services include traditional blocklists, which evaluate key indicators and patterns using industry standard metrics and sources, to block senders from sending spam both into the Comcast email domain (inbound) and from that domain (outbound).
Automated spam and malware filtering: We work with industry-leading partners to filter inbound and outbound email based on a global network of reliable feedback and reputation data that detects spam, phishing and malware. In addition, we protect our customers by prohibiting the delivery of emails containing file attachments that are most often used to transmit viruses. These file types include: .vbs, .pif, .scr, .bat, .com, .cmd, .msi, and .reg.
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) filtering: We employ a list of links of verified child exploitation materials prepared by the NCMEC to ensure any emails containing links to this illegal content are not transmitted through Comcast email for both inbound and outbound email.
Require encrypted and authenticated ports to send email: We require all customers using email clients, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or Mac Mail, to configure their software to use authentication and encrypted ports to send and receive email. This helps ensure that Comcast email users have a safe and secure experience.
