Smart TV's may occasionally offer updated TV software. If that is the case, your Internet-connected Smart TV may prompt you to update the software by an on-screen display. In order to complete the software updates for your Smart TV, you must navigate these on-screen displays with your TV’s included Smart TV remote.
Use your Smart TV remote to navigate the software prompts
Note: Your Xfinity TV remote will not be able to control the on-screen displays for your Smart TV.
The messages displayed by your TV may look similar to the on-screen display of X1, but in order to complete the software upgrade, your Smart TV remote must be used to navigate through the Smart TV’s software update.
Every Smart TV may have different on-screen displays, menus and navigation so please refer to your Smart TV user manual or online support site for help.

FAQs
How do I know the difference between an Xfinity TV software update and my Smart TV software update?
The Smart TV on-screen displays may look very similar to some of the Xfinity TV on-screen displays; however, if your Smart TV is connected to the Internet and requires an update, it will prompt you to complete the update and may interrupt your TV viewing for a short period of time. An Xfinity TV upgrade will be done automatically, without user interaction, and should not impact your TV viewing.
If you cannot tell the difference between the Smart TV and Xfinity TV on-screen displays, try to navigate with your Xfinity TV remote control first. If this does not work, then try to navigate with your Smart TV remote control.
Can I use my Xfinity TV remote to navigate the on-screen display of my Smart TV’s software update?
No, you must use the remote control that came with your Smart TV to navigate any on-screen display that is part of your Smart TV experience.
Can I use my Xfinity TV remote control for any functions on my Smart TV?
Yes, you can program your Xfinity TV remote control to power on and off your TV as well as control its volume, but all other navigation must be done with your Smart TV remote control.
How do I know if I have an update from my Smart TV?
If your TV is connected to the Internet, the Smart TV may prompt you to complete a software update when it is available. If your Smart TV is not connected to the Internet, or you did not receive a prompt, you can check the Help/Setup/Support section in your Smart TV menus or on your Smart TV manufacturer’s website to find out if you have an update to your Smart TV software.
If I power off my Xfinity TV box and power it back on, the on-screen display for a software update still appears. How do I complete the update or dismiss this display?
Xfinity TV cannot control the on-screen displays of your Smart TV. In order to complete the software update or dismiss the display, you will need to use your Smart TV remote.
How long will the software update take to complete on my Smart TV?
Smart TV software update times vary between TV vendors and models. Some Smart TV’s may display an indicator to show progress of the update process. Also, you may have the opportunity to delay the software update if you are currently watching TV.
