The word “Verified” (or the letter “V”) will appear next to some incoming calls on your caller ID, voicemail logs or TV screen (for Xfinity X1 customers). This will indicate that the call is coming from a phone number Comcast is able to verify.
Benefits
Caller ID just got smarter about security
Scammers and other bad actors are using tactics such as spoofing or neighbor spoofing to get you to answer their calls. Spoofing simply alters the name or number on your Caller ID, while neighbor spoofing appears to come from a phone number very similar to your own, often using your area code and the next three digits of your number.
To help you identify a potentially fraudulent call, we’ve enhanced our Caller ID feature. Now, you’ll see the word Verified (or the letter V) appear any time the caller’s telephone provider has confirmed that the call is coming from a legitimate telephone number. Where applicable, the verification symbol will appear on the phone screen, and if you have Xfinity X1, it will appear on your TV screen. The symbol will also appear on the call log and voicemail when you’ve received a Verified call.
This does not mean that all calls without a verification symbol are scam calls. We can only verify a call if the caller is using a network that has the same capabilities as the Xfinity Voice network.
Disclaimer: Comcast is not responsible for the content of the call, only verifying the caller ID.
Talking points
FAQs
Will Verified Caller ID be able to detect every spoofed number that calls my home?
In order for Verified Caller ID to verify an incoming call, the caller’s voice service provider must also have the same authentication protocol as Comcast. Because not all service providers have deployed this protocol yet (Xfinity Voice is one of the first), some legitimate numbers are not able to be verified. This means that not every caller without verification is a bad actor. As more carriers adopt the protocol, Verified Caller ID will be able to read more callers’ information.
Does this feature automatically block spoofed numbers?
No. As an enhancement to the existing Caller ID feature, Verified Caller ID provides more information about the incoming calls so you can decide which ones to answer.
Is there an extra cost/is installation required?
No. Verified Caller ID is included with Xfinity Voice Caller ID and requires no installation.
Can I turn off Verified Caller ID?
Verified Caller ID cannot be turned off; however, Caller ID on TV can be turned off if you prefer not to receive those notifications on your TV screen.
Where can I learn more about authentication protocols?
To learn more, visit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website.
How does Verified Caller ID work with Spam Blocker?
Spam Blocker applies to calls that aren’t initially blocked by the Anonymous Call Rejection or Call Screening features, and aren't verified by Verified Caller ID. Verified calls won’t receive a Spam label.
