Learn what to do when you have a problem with a Lighting/Appliance Controller or Outlet Controller in your Xfinity Home system.
What you'll need
- Xfinity Home
- Access to the Controller and the light or appliance you're having trouble with
Difficulty
Easy
I need to reset my controller
Note: These instructions should be used if you need to reset your controller or are having one of the following issues:
- Controller is not in pairing mode directly out of the box
- The LED doesn't light up when the controller is plugged in before pairing
- The touchscreen can't find the controller during pairing
To get your controller into "pairing" mode, you need to prepare it by resetting it back to its factory defaults, even if you've just taken the controller out of its box.
- Unplug the controller from the wall receptacle.
- On the side or front of the controller, hold down the on/off button while you plug the controller into an electrical outlet. Continue holding the button in until the LED lights up.
- Not working? If the outlet is controlled by a light switch, make sure the switch is on.
- When the LED begins to blink, you're ready to pair the controller with your system.
The system won't control the appliance or light plugged into my controller
- Make sure the light or appliance itself is turned on from its on/off switch.
- If it's a light that won't turn on, check the light bulb.
- If the controller is plugged into an outlet controlled by a light switch, make sure the switch is on.
- For a lighting/appliance controller, make sure the light or appliance is plugged into the outlet on the bottom of the controller. The outlet on the front of the controller isn't controlled by your Xfinity Home system. It functions as a traditional outlet.
- Use the on/off button on the side or front of the controller to turn on the light or appliance. If the light/appliance turns on and off, but you can't control it from the system, you'll need to reset your controller and then repair your controller to your touchscreen.
The light plugged into my controller flickers when the switch is turned off
This sometimes happens when using fluorescent light bulbs. Replace the bulb with an LED or incandescent light bulb.
There is a delay before the controller turns on/off
Sometimes there may be a slight delay between the system's command and the Controller's execution. This happens because the touchscreen loses communication with the lighting/appliance controller or outlet controller for a few seconds, then reconnects. We're working to resolve this issue.
My lighting rule isn't working
If you have a lighting rule where the light turns on before midnight and is set to turn off after midnight, the turn on rule will work, but the turn off rule may not work. We're working to resolve this issue.
In the meantime, setting the turn off rule to just before midnight and creating another rule to turn on just after midnight and then turn off at the desired time may provide a solution.
