Get to know the features and functions of the XR2 and XR5 remotes used with Xfinity X1.
The XR2 and XR5 remote controls are redesigned to improve the Xfinity TV viewing experience. These remotes are smaller and easier to handle, putting the buttons you use most often within easy reach. Plus, there are fewer buttons so you can quickly find the functions you're looking for. And these remotes are more environmentally friendly; fewer materials and less power are used to make them.
Just put the supplied batteries into the remote control. Once the batteries are properly installed, the remote will work with your X1 TV Box automatically. Shown below are the XR2, XR5 and XR5v3/v4 remote controls.
Note: The XR2v3 remote control is now also available. For more information, see the Additional Keys on the XR2v3 section below.
Power, channels, volume
TV Power and All Power: When programmed to your TV, these keys turn the TV on or off.
- Certain versions of the remote can also be programmed to control the power on an audio device. Learn how to program the remote for audio devices.
- Note: The X1 TV Box is designed to remain on at all times and will not turn off when this button is pushed. See these power saver FAQs for more details.
VOL: When programmed to your TV or audio device, raises or lowers the volume.
CH: Tunes to the next higher (or lower) channel. Press the top half to channel up and the bottom half to channel down.
Mute: Turns sound off or on.
Play, rewind, fast forward, and more
Play/Pause: Plays or pauses Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs. For X1 DVRs, also plays or pauses live TV.
FF:
- Skips forward one day in the X1 On-Screen Guide.
- Fast-forwards Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs. Note: Not all Xfinity On Demand programs support fast forwarding.
- For X1 DVR, after rewinding live TV, FF advances through the buffered program.
- When in the On-Screen Guide, this will move you 24 hours into the future.
Rew:
- Skips back one day in the X1 Guide.
- Rewinds Xfinity On Demand or recorded programs.
- For X1 DVR, also rewinds live TV.
- When in the guide, this will move you back 24 hours.
Replay:
- Rewinds Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs back 15 seconds.
- For X1 DVRs, rewinds live TV 15 seconds.
Rec: Begins recording the program you are watching.
Guide navigation keys
xfinity: Displays the main menu of the guide, which provides access to all guide features. Learn more about the X1 main menu.
Guide:
- Press once to display TV listings. Learn how to navigate the X1 guide.
- Press a second time to filter your guide view. Learn how filter the X1 guide.
Exit/Stop:
- Exits guide screens.
- Stops and exits Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs.
- For X1 DVRs, after rewinding live TV, Exit/Stop returns you to "now" (to the currently-airing live broadcast point).
Page Up/Page Down:
- Jump several rows up or down in the guide and in other menu pages.
- Skip 10 minutes forward or back while watching Xfinity On Demand programs.
- Skip five minutes forward or back while watching any live TV or DVR recording.
- For X1 DVRs, Page Down skips live TV back five minutes. Page Up skips ahead to "now" (to the currently-airing live broadcast point).
OK: Selects a highlighted item within the guide.
Arrows:
- Navigate through the guide and menu screens one item at a time.
- Press the right arrow while watching live TV to access the Mini Guide. Learn more about the Mini Guide.
- Press the down arrow twice to access playback controls (pause/play, rewind, fast forward, etc.).
Last:
- In the guide or menu screens, returns to the previous screen.
- When watching TV, displays the last nine items watched (any combination of channels, Xfinity On Demand programs and recorded programs).
- Press the down arrow on the remote to display Last Channels, Continue Watching or Recent Applications.
Info: Displays detailed program information.
Shortcut keys (A, B, C, D)
- A: Accesses the Help menu.
- B: The B button can be used to bring up the Accessibility Settings menu. Learn more about the Accessibility Settings Menu.
- You can program the B button on your remote to navigate to a specific Accessibility Setting when pressed twice. Learn more about programming an Accessibility Shortcut on your remote.
- Note: Effective July 2017, pressing the B button will no longer display scaled video in the bottom right-hand corner when the full guide is displayed. This is due to low usage.
- C: When viewing live TV, use the C button to follow all games on TV with the X1 Sports App. Press the C button to launch and see scores, even while watching TV. See an example of how to access the Sports App.
- D: Use the D button to delete single DVR recordings or delete multiple recordings (e.g., a whole TV series) within a folder. Learn how to delete recordings. (For non-X1 TV Boxes, the D button will enable audio description instead of deleting an X1 DVR recording.)
Number keys, setup button, and TV Input button
- Numeric keypad:
- Use the keypad (0-9) to directly tune to a channel (e.g., 09 or 03).
- Skip the main menu and begin a search instantly, from anywhere, by entering numbers on your remote.
- In the Search menu, use the keypad to enter your search term. See an example of searching from the remote keypad.
- Setup: Programs your remote to control your TV and/or audio device Learn how to program the remote to control your TV or audio device.
- TV Input button
- TV Input is now available on the XR5v3/v4 remote.
- Use the TV Input button to change the input selection on your TV to access a DVD player, game console or other device.
Note: If you have 3D television, you will no longer be able to change the orientation of the guide using the Xfinity remote. Setting the TV back to 2D mode will return the guide to its normal orientation.
Additional keys on the XR2v3
XR2v3
The XR2v3 remote control is now available and includes the following buttons not found on previous versions of the XR2:
Search: Search for content by channel, program, or key words.
TV Input: Changes to the next available input on your TV.
Separate Play and Pause buttons
- Play: Plays Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs.
- Pause: Pauses Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs.
Separate Stop and Exit buttons
- Stop: Stops Xfinity On Demand and recorded programs.
- Exit: Exits guide screens and returns you to TV viewing.
Fav: Allows you to set up or easily view your favorite channels.
Swap: Switches between two DVR tuners so you can control playback of two channels.
