Testing an alarm
Testing your alarm every month ensures that your system is working properly and is ready to respond to any issues. Use the alarm Test mode when you change batteries in your devices (such as smoke detectors) to avoid setting off a false alarm.
To get started, you must:
- Contact the Central Monitoring Station at 800-455-1207 and let them know that you're testing your alarm.
- On your Home screen:
- Swipe up to open the Dashboard (if applicable), tap the gear icon, then tap Security.
Or, if your touchscreen has apps, tap Settings.
- Swipe up to open the Dashboard (if applicable), tap the gear icon, then tap Security.
- Enter your four-digit Master Keypad Code.
- On the Categories screen, tap Security.
- On the Security screen, tap Alarm Test.
- Tap Disabled to enable messaging, then tap Next; or, tap Next to leave messaging disabled.
Note: If you're replacing batteries in a device, you can stop at this point and replace the batteries.
Depending on why you're testing the alarm, you can enable or disable alarm messages to the Central Monitoring Station. For monthly testing, enabling messages to the Central Monitoring Station lets you know that the signal is getting through, but doesn't trigger a false alarm. If you're changing batteries, leaving messages disabled confines the test to your local system. - You're almost ready to test the alarm. Let's run down the checklist:
- If you haven't done so already, contact the Central Monitoring Station at 800-455-1207 and let them know you are testing your alarm system.
- Make sure all doors and windows with Sensors are closed and that Motion Sensors haven't been triggered for about two minutes.
- Tap Arm.
You'll hear an alert beep, and the Arm button will change to System Armed. The system is now armed in Test mode.- The exit delay is 10 seconds long.
- The exit delay is 10 seconds long.
- Tap Next.
- Test each security zone by tripping the Sensor:
- Door/Window: Open and close the door or window.
- Motion Detector: Avoid the Motion Detector's view for two minutes after arming the system, and then walk in front of it.
- Smoke Detector: Press and hold the Sensor's test button for about 20 seconds or until the siren sounds.
- Keychain Remote: Arm and disarm system with the Keychain Remote.
- Keypad: Arm and disarm system with the keypad.
Did You Know? You can mute the siren at any time during the test by tapping Mute Siren, but it's a good idea to let it sound briefly so that you know it's working properly.
- You'll be able to see which zones you tripped. When you've tested every zone, tap Disarm.
- Tap Next.
- Now it's time to check that the system performed properly:
- Review the alarms by zone.
- Confirm that you received email or text messages.
- If test alarm messages were enabled, contact the Central Monitoring Station at 800-455-1207 to be sure they received the alarms. If all alarms were received, let them know that testing is complete.
- Concerned about accidentally leaving the system in Alarm Test mode? The system automatically exits Alarm Test after 30 minutes.
- Tap Return to Menu to return to the Settings menu.
You're done!
