Follow the steps below to make sure your iPhone is connected to your private home WiFi network at home or to Xfinity WiFi hotspots when you’re traveling.
Configure devices for private home WiFi network at home and Xfinity WiFi hotspots on the go
If you downloaded the Xfinity app and set up Secure Auto-Connect, your iPhone will automatically connect to your private home WiFi network at home and Xfinity WiFi hotspots when visiting a friend or traveling.
Users auto-connecting with the Xfinity app are automatically connecting to the secure Xfinity Mobile and Xfinity SSIDs, and users can manually connect to the open xfinitywifi SSID through the device’s network settings.
If your iPhone is on iOS 6 or above (or if it’s an iPhone 5 or newer), it will automatically connect to your private WiFi at home and any Xfinity WiFi hotspots available when you’re visiting a friend or traveling. But if you haven’t connected to Xfinity WiFi for two weeks, you may need to select the network again due to iOS defaults. Setting up Secure Auto-Connect will ensure auto-connection to Xfinity WiFi.
iPhones connect to the last network manually selected if that network is available.
If your device doesn’t connect to your private home WiFi network by default, follow these steps:
- Tap Settings.
- Tap WiFi to see the list of available networks (SSIDs).
- To connect to your private home WiFi network, tap the network name of your home WiFi network in the menu (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal).
- Wait a few seconds while your device connects.
- If you have never connected to your private home WiFi network on this Xfinity Wireless Gateway before, you’ll need to enter the Network Key printed on the label on the bottom of the wireless gateway and tap Join.
- If you have changed the network key (also known as password) from the original setting, enter that key instead.
- Find out more about connecting to your wireless gateway.
- Wait a few seconds while your device connects, and you're done!
